Readers Offer Feedback On Newsletter, Other Communications

IDSA members look to the Society to keep them up to date on clinical issues and new technology—yet they have little time to devote to reading. That was a key finding of a survey of IDSA and HIV Medicine Association members conducted this summer.

IDSA and HIVMA contracted with an independent research firm to survey members about their perceptions of the Society’s newsletters, websites, and other member communications. A four-page survey was distributed to a stratified sample of 2,593 IDSA and HIVMA members, both domestic and international. The response rate was 22.9 percent.

Most respondents—87 percent—agree that the mix of electronic and print communications is on target. The majority—65 percent—believe that IDSA and HIVMA are effective in delivering credible and highly valued information. Yet members struggle to keep informed. What emerges in the dataand verbatim comments is an image of a time-strapped professional seeking ways to keep up to date in a concise manner.

IDSA and HIVMA will use the survey results to tailor our communications to meet members’ needs. Stay tuned for updates.
