IDSA needs your help to educate members of Congress about the value of ID specialists and why a proposal to eliminate consultation codes used by many ID physicians is a bad idea (see IDSA News article). Many IDSA members have sent comment letters to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) about this proposal, but grassroots advocacy is still needed. Medicare’s final rule will be published in November. In the meantime, you can raise awareness among your senators and representatives about this important issue, how it affects ID physicians, and the consequences for patient care. See IDSA’s website for more information about how you can make a difference today.
To learn more about the proposal and IDSA’s position, see this position statement recently published in Clinical Infectious Diseases. IDSA also is working in collaboration with several other specialty societies to urge the American Medical Association to take a stronger position against Medicare’s consultations proposal.
