Picking the right code level is often difficult due to a lack of familiarity with the rules governing inpatient consultations, subsequent hospital visits, prolonged services, and incident-to billing. Medicare’s decision to eliminate payments for consultation codes (see IDSA News article) has complicated matters further. “Ask the Coder” can help.
