“Ask the Coder” Answers CPT Questions

Have a tough coding question? Picking the right code level is often difficult due to a lack of familiarity with the rules governing inpatient consultations, subsequent hospital visits, prolonged services, and incident-to billing. Medicare’s decision to eliminate payments for consultation codes (see IDSA News article) has complicated matters further. “Ask the Coder” can help. If you have a question about evaluation and management (E&M) or current procedural terminology (CPT) service codes, simply fill out the form on the “Ask the Coder” portal, and your question will be sent to a certified professional coder for a response.
