From the President: The Year Ahead
Although tough times may lay ahead, given the nation’s economic constraints and their potential impact on federal funding for research, public health, and patient care, IDSA will continue to focus on the needs of the Society’s diverse membership, from practicing ID clinicians providing direct patient care to researchers and scientists in academic and public health settings.
Medicare Announces Payment Changes for 2011

Medicare announced a number of changes in how physicians will be paid next year, under the final version of the 2011 Physician Fee Schedule. Unfortunately, no change is in store regarding the contentious decision to eliminate payments for consultation codes.

ID and HIV Maintenance of Certification Modules Now Available

Developed by panels of experts from IDSA and the HIV Medicine Association (HIMVA), two new Maintenance of Certification (MOC) modules—one in general ID medicine and one in HIV medicine—are now available online.

IDSA Journal Club
This month, studies investigating: persistent cognitive and functional deficits following sepsis, adenovirus 36 and childhood obesity, the unabated HIV epidemic among men who have sex with men, CHG-impregnated cloths and preventing SSTIs, and voriconazole as an option for invasive fusariosis.
